Summer 2017 Top Trends: Menswear

After countless attempts at putting away the winter coat in Toronto, summer is finally here. With the month of June filled with outdoor activities for Pride and the wide range of music festivals on the way, stay on trend with this Fashion Friday post. It’s time to take a look at the 5 top we will being a lot this summer season.

Punk’d Out

The punk subculture the world of fashion just can’t seem to let go, and I can’t blame it. During fashion week the emersion of British punk style took to the runway once again this season. Seen in subtle details with bracelets and classic acid wash jeans. Trousers to be a big trend for the summer with a twist in style from slim and ankle cropped. Plaids, prints, zippers, and studs.

Designers: Coach, Dsquared2, Dior Homme.

Pink Passion

Ever since taking the crown in 2016 as the colour of the year, pink has been slowly breaking onto the surface for 2017. One of the many stands out colours for summer, we will be seeing pink in a variety of shades. From warm, muted to dusty rose golds. Seen mostly in a full summer suit style, but for the average consumer such as myself, pink can be used as an accent colour in t-shirts, crewnecks and button downs for the season. A muted pink bathing suit works for all guys. Keep that in mind.

Designers: Gucci, Diesel Gold Black, Bottega Veneta.

Stripes At Any Width

Stripes aren’t for everyone, but if they work for you, this next one is for you. Stripes are in this summer season, at any length, size, and direction. A classic in menswear, the difference this season is the varying widths. Try an interesting pastel colour or even clash two opposite colours to create an interesting alternative to the basic stripe.

Designers: Balmain, Fendi, Tiger Of Sweden.

Hats Off, Or On In This Case

It is time to give that beanie a break for the summer. Yes, I’m talking to you. This season is all about the revival of the baseball cap. A long time coming, the baseball cap takes a slow rise back into the fashion scene.  Give the baseball cap a fashion feel by adding premium fabrics such as cashmere to add a little extra luxury. To make fashion functional, stop yourself from overheating in caps of jersey, cotton or nylon blends. Wear your baseball cap anyway you want, as long as it’s not red and doesn’t say “Make America Great Again.” Throw that one out.

Designers: Rag & Bone, Valentino, Phillipp Plein.

Shady Sunglasses

A staple accessory for summer. Sunglasses. Bigger and bolder than ever. Seen in a wide selection of patterns, tints and frame styles.  Frames seen in interesting angular shapes or perfectly rounded. Some designers took classic styles and added a modern style to fit this season aesthetic.

Designers: Emporio Armani, Paul Smith, Topman Design.
